JJ Suspenders Review

If you’re tired of belts, you should consider JJ Suspenders. There are only a few companies making suspenders that are actually fashionable anymore, and the addition of JJ Suspenders to that limited market is something of a breath of fresh air.

We think of suspenders as being anachronistic, but they’re far more functional than a belt is. Suspenders will keep your pants, slacks or trousers held up far more consistently than belts do, especially when in motion. That’s probably why we think of the stereotypical lumberjack as wearing them; suspenders were commonly used for outdoor trades and sport for that reason.

However, suspenders were also part of formal wear for a very long time, until they started going out of fashion in the early 20th century. JJ Suspenders is helping to bring them back…and you should definitely give them a try.

JJ Suspenders Identified A Gap In The Market

JJ Suspenders is named for the two founders of the company, Jackson and Josh…hence “JJ.” They discovered how awesome it was to wear suspenders instead of a belt, but discovered that most suspenders on the market were made by a single overseas company, churning out low-quality, low-cost product at high volume.

The only high-end maker of suspenders they found were based in England, and while the product was good they were also prohibitively expensive, took forever to ship and customer service was lacking.

To do something about it, they started JJ Suspenders. They created some new designs and added some innovative features, and started creating a few different lines of suspenders, so almost anyone looking for suspenders could find a pair to meet their needs.

Casual, formal…they’ve got you covered.

All of their suspenders are made in the USA, stitched by hand and come backed by a 30 day money-back warranty, so you can return your suspenders for a full refund if unhappy within the first month you own them. They also offer free shipping (for US customers) on orders over $50 and a flat rate of $10 for those under. All US shipping is 5 to 7 business days.

How JJ Suspenders Work

Suspenders have one of two types of attachment. You have alligator clips or “Y”-shaped leather loops. The former are rather self-explanatory, but the latter involve a certain amount of commitment. To use loop suspenders, buttons must be sewn (or tacked if using tack buttons) to the inside of the waistband.

In previous eras, not all trousers would be offered with belt loops for precisely this purpose.

JJ Suspenders give you both choices, which is one of the innovative features of their product. The two front straps and the Y strap at the back all feature a snap loop at the end of the strap. Your suspenders will include a set of alligator clips and leather loops, in addition to a set of buttons and a selection of thread for installing them, which is a brilliant touch. They also include a burlap bag for easy storage.

Where you go from there is up to you.

JJ Suspenders offers four classes of straps. You can select from Skinny, Classic, Leather or Formal, whichever is your preference. The Skinny and Leather suspenders are 0.75 inches wide, Classic suspenders are 1.15 inches wide and Formal are 1.5 inches in width. All straps feature 10 to 12 inches in adjustability, so most men should have no problems with wearing them.

For casual wear, the Skinny model – such as these Navy Baby suspenders in navy blue with brown leather harness and strap ends – are very well suited. These will accommodate anyone between 5’2″ to 6’2″ in height.

The Classic line is much like the Skinny suspenders, but are made with wider straps. The height adjustment is the same. The Skinny line has elastic straps, whereas the Classic, formal and leather suspenders have an elastic Y strap in the back.

Each has multiple solid colors and patterns available to suit any taste.

The leather suspenders feature two leather straps and an elastic Y strap at the back. The leather straps are adjustable, with roller buckles for easy adjustment. These suspenders can adjust to fit anyone between 5’6″ to 6’4″ in height, so these are the big and tall model.

Multiple colors are available, ranging from black to Chestnut Java brown to even oxblood.

The other good news about JJ Suspenders is that almost any budget can be accommodated. Prices start at $49 for the Skinny line, and go up from there. Leather suspenders are $69, the Classic line are $89 and the Formal suspenders are $109.

While that may seem like a lot for suspenders compared to the cheap brands which often command $20 or less, remember that these are hand-made in the USA for the modern gentleman, as opposed to mass-produced overseas for whomever wants them.

If you were curious about suspenders, there is no better place to start. It makes a great addition to any wardrobe and should be in your arsenal, I rock them at work and stand behind their quality. Head over to JJ Suspenders and grab a pair or two, the presentation and quality makes for a great gift.
