Every Day Carry Tray Build

The Intension Design EDC Tray is made with a precision that’s normally reserved for aircraft components. The result is incredible build quality but also durable construction, so you can count on this EDC tray to last a long time indeed.

The tray is milled from solid billet aluminum to tolerances as small as +/- 0.001 inches. The tray bottom is 6061 aluminum, which is sandblasted and anodized to prevent any oxidation whatsoever. The finish will hold up a very long time indeed; you could practically expect it to last indefinitely in the indoor environment. The bumpers surrounding the tray bottom are laser-cut and all logos in the bumpers are laser-engraved.

Dimensions are 3.95 inches wide by 11.87 inches long by 0.53 inches in height, and weight is 0.9 lbs. Light enough to not be a brick on the counter-top, solid enough to not dance when anything is placed in it.

The tray is lined with Ultrasuede, a soft but “grabby” material often used in premium automotive interiors and in the aerospace industry. This gives the tray a soft but non-skid interior, so your items stay put once placed inside.

The bottom of the tray is polyurethane rubber, which is non-skid, non-marking, and resistant to oils, grease, and abrasion. This keeps it in place and from being damaged easily.

EDC Tray Will Fit Most EDC Items

Unless you head out the door with an entire backpack worth of kit, the Intension Design EDC Tray will actually fit most of your items.

Most people look for an EDC tray that will hold their smartphone. This tray is large enough to handle any smartphone, up to and including larger phone/tablets such as the Galaxy Note8, iPhone X, the U11 and so on. Your phone will safely be held inside.

Additionally, there are two channels machined into the bumpers on the sides, which a charge cable can be placed into for when it’s time to get your phone on the charger.

Not only that, but you also have room for car keys, your wallet, a pen or two and any other small bits of EDC gear you might have.

The design is rather minimalist – after all, it’s a tray; what exactly would you expect?! – but is quite classy at the same time, very modern and clean. The outer tray is silver, but you have your choice of six Ultrasuede colors. You can choose natural suede, blue (a light royal), grey, “sky” (light blue), red or yellow.

The cost is $65, but the solid build ensures that you’re making a long-term investment. This tray isn’t going to get damaged by putting your EDC gear in and out; you’ll likely have it for years if not a decade or two. Given than classy, sleek designs never really go out of style, that makes it a solid buy.
