7 Tips for a Pest-Free BBQ

There’s nothing more annoying than having a nice BBQ on a sunny day being obstructed by annoying pests.

BBQ Pest Control Tips

Fortunately, there are some ways to limit their presence.

Minimize Strong Food Odors

Mosquitoes, ants and other pests are heavily attracted to the aroma that food brings. Fruit and uncooked meat are the more common culprits.

Until you are ready to serve the food, try packing away all unused food in airtight containers as a means to keep the smell from reaching outwards.

That way, there will be lest pests in the area and the risk of them contaminating your food is reduced as well.

Relocate and Cover Garbage

Something else that has a tendency to attract pests is garbage. Do not allow garbage to casually sit on the tables and allow the smell to permeate the air.

Encourage all of your guests to throw out trash immediately as they are finished.

Also, ensure that garbage containers are placed in an area away from the main gathering and that the containers are lined and sealed correctly.

Insect Repellant

Insects can be attracted to the smell of food and garbage, but there are other odors that can drive them away.

One powerful smell that can steer them away is that of insect repellant. Citronella candles and torches are another alternatives that can remove the number of pests in your backyard if you are not comfortable using a spray.

Adequately Prepare Your Yard

Sufficient preparation of your environment is needed to control the number of pests that can ruin your festivities.

This involves making sure that there are no areas of running water to prevent mosquitoes breeding, keeping bushes and weeds cut back to eliminate potential shelter for insects and inspecting for any nests.

Cleanliness Is Vital

It should be common knowledge that one should clean up after themselves, but this is a behavior that often gets overlooked.

Be sure that there is no residual food or drinks left behind when you are finished. This is practically an open invitation for any pests to come along.

Check Patching

If there are any windows or doors with meshes, check to see that there are no openings or holes in any of them to prevent pests from entering.

Also, stress to your guests to close any doors behind them upon entering or leaving.

Wear Lighter Clothing

Dark clothing can attract sunlight, which in turn will increase body heat.

Insects and mosquitoes will gladly enjoy any perspiration you let off, so if possible prevent this from happening by opting for a lighter shade in clothing.
