OLALA Portable Charger Review

Sometimes, you can’t necessarily get to a wall charger, requiring a portable charger. The OLALA Portable Charger is a smart bit of kit for just such an occasion.

We’ll go over why it’s an essential tech EDC to have – and in fact, necessary for some folks – in this OLALA portable charger review.

OLALA Portable Charger Is Compatible With Any Device

The OLALA Portable Charger is compatible with almost any smartphone or tablet. No need to worry about compatibility; both major classes of device are supported. Charging cables for both are included with purchase.

The housing of the charger includes an on-board cable, which tucks into the device’s housing and locks into place with a rubber collar. The cable is Apple’s Lightning connector, so the device is compatible with iPhone 5 and forward, fourth-generation iPads and iPods forward and so on. However, even folks still using their iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S aren’t left in the cold.

The OLALA Portable Charger includes a USB port, which any USB cable can be inserted into. However, the hitch – of course – is that the charger comes with a USB to USB-C cable, so devices using either Apple’s 30-pin connector or MicroUSB ports will require a separate cable to use the charger.

The charger itself uses a MicroUSB connector to charge.

With that said, most smartphones and tablets have either Lightning or USB-C ports, so most devices will find this charger compatible.

Since dual cables are supported, this also means up to two devices can be charged at a time, which is pretty handy, especially if you carry both a phone and a tablet.

OLALA Portable Charger Review

The OLALA Portable Charger has a 6000 mAh battery, which is sufficient to fully charge an iPhone 8 twice on one charge of the battery. LEDs inform you of charge status while in use.

Output is high-capacity – 2.4 amps – and the charger can fully charge an iPhone 6, 7 or 8 in about 45 minutes. A Samsung S7 would take about an hour and 10 minutes. Again, iPhone users are slightly better served in this regard by the charger, though Android users will certainly find it a usable and useful accessory as well.

Dimensions are 4.9 inches long by 2.4 inches wide by 0.5 inches tall, which is roughly the same size as an iPhone 6. It tucks into a pocket quite well. It’s makes for a good EDC, as it weighs only 5.1 ounces.

MSRP is $28.99 from Amazon (before tax, because state coffers need recharging too) and – good news here – it’s eligible for Prime shipping.

The OLALA Portable Charger is less expensive then portable chargers you might find at your local Mart store, with some very intelligent features (namely the dual port capability) and actually looks pretty smart in the process, with a glossy clean white case. If you travel or otherwise find yourself constantly running out of battery, it’s a must-have. I keep it my car and plug in my phone on my drive back from work. I highly recommend it, You can purchase the OLALA Portable Charger over at Amazon for $28.99
