Jack Erwin – Designed In New York, Handmade in Spain

Imagine you are attending a wedding but you and your best friend go out to shop for men’s shoes, but shock on you, you can’t afford any of them. They are too pricey.

That’s how Ariel Nelson and Lane Gerson (picture above) came up with the idea of Jack Erwin.

They couldn’t find pair of shoes for Nelson that was affordable. The shoes were either low quality or way too expensive. From that incident, they found a market niche. They realized there was something missing in the market for men’s shoes. Shoes that were suitable for formal occasions and even work were either too overdone and expensive or just poor quality. Gerson, an accountant, and nelson, in the beverage distribution industry, quit their jobs to start their own company. A good decision on their part. Jack Erwin sells good quality men’s shoes online at a very affordable price.

Fun fact: they decided to name their web based company after their fathers who would never spend too much money one a pair of shoes.jack erwin founding members

After quitting their jobs in 2012, they spent their entire summer learning everything there is to learn about the shoe industry. One afternoon, nelson decided long hair was not his thing anymore and decided to have it chopped off.

The gentleman next to him was talking of how he had spent 20 years in the shoe industry yet didn’t feel any fulfillment as he never really owned anything.

This was enough to catch nelsons attention and the started talking. The gentleman was Bertrand Guillaume, and as they spoke, he decided to join them, but there was a problem.

Nelson and Lane needed money but didn’t have any.

They eventually managed to acquire funds and in October 2013, their website was launched and had 3000 shoes for sale. Believe it or not, within two months, there was nothing left of their stock. All gone. How, you ask?

They sent emails to friends and family and through a small word here and there, word spread like bush fire. Not only were they out of stock but they had a waiting list that was thousands of people long!

Slowly by slowly they worked their way to the top. There was really a gap in the market. Maybe many people had noticed it but none was brave enough to pursue it. It only took two brave men, who followed their instincts, to bring an evolution to the shoe industry. Men’s wear to be specific. Not only were they going to sell affordable men’s shoes, but also of good quality too.

Another fun fact: all their shoes are handmade. Yes, somewhere in Spain are men stitching good quality shoes so that you can have them at a pocket friendly price.

They currently have several lines of shoes and among them is the Ellis Chelsea boot.

It is as sleek as they come and has a rubber booth. Its leather and has an insole, the outer rubber sole is handcrafted and it has a stacked heel. It is also handcrafted like the rest of their shoes. It comes in different sizes and you will not believe the meager amount of cash you have to pay to own this baby; $220. For some of you this may seem like a lot, however compare a similar shoe at nordstroms and you will see that these easily retail in $750+.

It is part of .the Foster collection which contains five other shoes in it: Abe, Adam, Joe, Mitch and Noah, all of which are $195 and come in two colors each, apart from the Chelsea boot which comes in three: Arabica full grain, black and brown.

They all come within the price range of $195 and $220 for the boots. They come in either two or three colors. I found Ellis Chelsea boot to be very comfortable, sturdy and very good looking.

Before jack Erwin, shopping for men’s shoes was such a huge task, but thanks to their online store, men can now get classy comfortable good quality shoes for just around $200. They truly revolutionized the shoe industry for men. Take a look at their extensive collection of quality footwear for men over at JackEwin.com
