If you find that a carabiner-style clip is just not tough enough and garishly low-tech, the UltraLink is the key clip for you. This is an ultra-durable but cleverly designed belt clip that’s ideal for keys, multi-tools or any other item that you would like a quick-release for but need to be carried securely.
For those that want smart but highly functional EDC gear, bid that Walmart carabiner goodbye. The UltraLink should be on your short list. It’s available via a Kickstarter at the moment, but sufficient interest should see it into production.
UltraLink For The Everyday Carry Junkie
If you absolutely obsess over the latest and greatest and most innovative of everyday carry gear, the UltraLink is a piece that is not to be missed. It uses a novel design to create a better belt clip for keys or any other item you want suspended from the beltline.
It’s made with a two-piece design, featuring a titanium alloy outer carriage housing and a two-pronged slide-release buckle, not unlike what you’d find on many belts and other devices. The release buckle housing has a lanyard loop, through which you’d thread a key ring for your car keys, house keys or anything else you’d be able to hang through it. The slide release piece can be had in aluminum alloy (with a matte silver tone) or also in titanium alloy, which has a gunmetal-like appearance.
The release clip includes a phosphorescent insert, with the neon-like color of your choice. Red, pink, blue, yellow, green and more are available. It looks cool but also illuminates in low light conditions, which is extraordinarily handy. However, make sure you pick the module you like; it isn’t replaceable once installed. A solid brass insert can be ordered as well.
The outer housing includes the belt clip, a foldover design running the entire vertical length of the UltraLink. It only orients vertically, but the positive is that unlike many other key clip or key ring designs, it slides over the belt or the waistline of your pants or shorts if you don’t wear a belt. Your keys, therefore, hang higher than they would if hung from a belt loop via a carabiner or similar device.
Is YOUR Keyring Aircraft Grade?
The UltraLink is machined from aerospace-grade materials, so it’s durable enough to take a lifetime of abuse. However, it’s also light, so you don’t have a hunk of metal hanging on your waist.
The clip fits belts up to 1.75 inches wide, so even the beefiest of leather belts or web belts (some folks prefer wearing rigger’s or tactical belts every day) short of a policeman’s Sam Browne rig are compatible with the UltraLink.
The UltraLlink is 1 inch wide by 2.75 inches tall. The weight is only 45 grams (1.6 ounces) with the aluminum spring clip so you’ll barely notice it’s there. However, the titanium spring clip plus inserts can bring the weight to 70 grams (still less than 4 oz) so it’s hardly going to weigh you down.
The carriage assembly is fastened with titanium Torx drive bolts, so it’s solidly assembled. You should never have an issue with it coming apart.
The base model includes the aluminum alloy spring clip, but a deluxe model offers a titanium spring clip. A brass insert can be added as an optional upgrade.
Currently, the lowest minimum pledge is $83, though eventual MSRP for the UltraLink is projected at $99. A pledge of $83 or $88 will get you one UtraLink with the titanium carriage and aluminum spring clip, but a pledge of $124 or more will net you the full titanium model. The KickStarter doesn’t mention what the extra $5 gets you, but it’s likely to be a few more options of insert color.
The investment sounds like a lot for a belt clip, but the thing about the UltraLink compared to most other belt clips on the market? You’ll only have to buy it once. Head over to Kickstarter and support quality EDC Gear
