Gifts for Cigar Lovers

If you’re trying to think of good gift ideas for the man in your life that loves cigars, there are tons of affordable options to choose from. Rather than trying to go big on something expensive but not being sure if he’ll like it, or worrying that you don’t know what to get and spending a lot, you can try one or more things that are cheaper that he’ll still love. Here are 5 affordable gift ideas for a cigar lover.
Cigar Sample Pack
This is a great and fun gift idea if he likes trying new cigars, the same way some men who like beer will enjoy getting a random bunch of new craft beers to try. You can look online or in cigar shops for a sample pack of cigars from certain brands, and if you want to make more certain that he’ll like the pack you choose you can try finding out what brands he likes and get a pack from that brand.
For this scouting mission, how you do it depends on the relationship you have with him. Is it a close relative, like your father, brother, or husband? You can try snooping their stash of cigars and take a quick picture of the packs and labels. Is it a friend or more distant relative, like a cousin or uncle? You can try asking their immediate family members and significant others to do the snooping for you. If it’s more of an acquaintance or co-worker, you can try working it into a conversation with them. Tell them that you’re looking for ideas for your close male relative and ask what brands they’d recommend.
For affordability, you can get decent ones for between $30 and $50 regular price (or if you luck out and find a sale you can get those for under $20), or get a pack for $50 that usually costs a lot more.
Travel Humidor
Humidors are units that keep cigars in the best condition before they’re smoked, to preserve the smells and tastes as if they were new. If your cigar lover is a big connoisseur of cigars he likely already has more than one humidor for different types of cigars, which can make it difficult to get him one. Plus, humidors can be very expensive for cigar aficionados who are both very particular and want very good quality.
However, what they might not have is a humidor for traveling. They’re smaller or just more affordable and can be used to take a few cigars on a trip. You can find some nice leather cases with room for cutters and other necessary accessories, as well as a few cigars, for around $50 regular price. You get them the travel humidor, they can supply the rest! When they go on an extended trip, they can bring a few of their favorite cigars with them. It’s a great little gift that even a cigar enthusiast might not already have.
Lighters
If you’re not a cigar smoking enthusiast you probably think that any regular lighter can be used with a cigar, but lighters that you get at most stores for cigarettes use a type of fuel that is actually very bad for cigars. Anyone who smokes cigars knows that if you’re going to use a lighter, it has to use butane fuel that does not negatively affect the taste and smell of the tobacco when you light it.
Butane is a higher quality fuel that burns cleaner, so it doesn’t transfer any bad tasting or smelling chemicals to the tobacco of the cigar. Butane lighters also tend to create a hotter flame, which makes it easier to create a full and even burns of a cigar.
This means you can impress your cigar-smoking gift receiver by getting them a nice butane lighter, which is something they could always use more of once their other lighters run out of fuel. You can get a nice-looking butane lighter for $30 to $40 on the high end, or get one that’s still a good lighter for even less and combine it with one of these other gifts.
Cutters
A cutter is what cigar smokers use to cut the end off a cigar before lighting that end to smoke it. There are many different types of cutters that you can find, and each has their advantages: some are more durable but don’t cut as clean, others are good for being a convenient size for travel but don’t work on some types or sizes of cigars, and so on. That’s why — just like with lighters — cutters are something a cigar enthusiast can always use another.
You can try doing some sleuthing, like with the cigar pack above, to find out what cutters they have and what they need. Do some quick research into the different types (guillotine, perfect cut, scissor, punch, or v-cutter) to know how the different types look and see if you can get one type they don’t already have.
If you’re still not sure or can’t find out, you can always go with a punch or double-blade guillotine cutters. You can get good ones for around $50 for either type and where punch cutters can be attached to a keychain thanks to how portable they are, double-blade guillotine cutters are a great quality with cleaner cuts.
Incense & Odor Eliminators
Something almost all cigar smokers will have to deal with is the wrath of their family who doesn’t like the smell. If you’re also friends with the man’s wife or girlfriend, you can make a practical but funny joke gift and buy them a set of odor-eliminating products aimed at cigar lovers. You can buy breath mints in a canister that has his favorite cigar brand stamped on it, an odor-eliminating spray for fabrics, or a candle or incense burner to freshen up the smell of their smoking den.
Mints can be had for very cheap, which means you can get a branded tin for less than $10. The odor-eliminating spray can be as simple as something like Febreze, or you can get a bottle of smoke-specific freshener spray for $5 to $10 depending on the size and brand. Candles or incense also vary in price, but you can find nice ones in a scent that he likes for around $10. That means you can assemble a set for less than $50 easily.
